Kings of Leon is strictly for the birds

Kings of Leon were forced to cancel a show in St. Louis, Missouri Friday after playing just three songs. Although there wasn’t a storm brewin’, there was a torrential downpour…of pigeon poop.

Even The Onion couldn’t make this shit up.

An infestation of pigeons in the rafters of the Verizon Amphitheater showered the band with droppings until apparently the (un)almighty Kings cried uncle. The opening bands, The Postelles and The Stills, had no problem fulfilling their contracts. Both bands played their sets in full.

Bassist Jared Followill, a self-proclaimed “germaphobe,” was hit “several” times during the first two songs.

“I was hit by pigeons on each of the first three songs,” he said. “We had 20 songs on the set list. By the end of the show, I would have been covered from head to toe.”

Is this what Rock has come to? Arena rock gets canceled because of birds!?

They had thousands of fans waiting for them – ones who bought tickets in advance, traveled to the show, and spent their time and money to go see them play. What do they do to thank them? They chose to cancel the show. “Chose” being the keyword here. As a routine concert-goer, I would’ve been livid.

I hate when people say “Rock is dead.” That’s a declaration of old, faded hippies and burnt out metalheads and punks who are too lazy and jaded to keep up with the changing of times. However, I do think the notion of a “Rock Star” has truly left the building years ago. Who do they think they are, Axl Rose?

Not even close.

Props to Ernie Mac for the link. YOU’RE MY BOY, MAC!

  1. Anna Papachristos Says:

Guess you could say the bassist is quite the “potty mouth.” (Because I hear the straw that broke the camel’s back was when one pigeon pooped in his mouth… disgusting.)

  2. One word: LAME. Maybe if Jared used less product in his hair he wouldn’t have been so concerned. Or he could’ve tried moving over. Something tells me the birds weren’t out to get him and probably wouldn’t have followed him.

  3. I can’t believe how much mileage they got out of this story.

  4. I know, Gail – it’s true they got a lot of press for it…but I think they are 1,000% more lame for it.

Though, I guess no press is bad press…
